Severus, still humming "Once in Royal David's City," and Remus, flushed and smiling, stood in the entryway. Audrey Prince, hat adorned with fwooper plumes, smiled indulgently at them. Clearly the three of them had resolved whatever needed to be resolved.
"Madam Prince! How good to see you!" Narcissa, ever perfect, swept past her sister to air-kiss the elderly woman. "This is my sister and - "
"Of course." Madam Prince nodded to Severus, who produced a small sack from his pocket and unshrank it. "Gifts for young Theodore. It is good to be young, and never better than at Christmas."

"He's a lovely child." Narcissa watched as Andromeda lifted the baby from his crib. She blinked as Teddy's hair turned red, then green, then red again. "Another Metamorphmagus?"
"Oh yes." Andromeda chucked Teddy under the chin. "He imitates everyone - there he goes!" She laughed as Teddy turned as blond as Narcissa. "It's good to have a child about at Christmas, especially this year."
"I'm sure." Narcissa wrapped an arm about her sister's shoulders. "Dromie, I - "
"Andromeda? Narcissa?" A male voice called up the stairs. Another voice, deeper but still young, broke into a Christmas song. "We're back!"

Hello everyone!
I've been...dithering...about making this post. It's not a decision that came lightly, and I kept hoping I'd wake up one morning with a change of attitude, but that hasn't happened.
So, hp_springsmut is going on temporary hiatus for 2010.
I know that many of you will be disappointed, and I do apologize for that, but it's a hiatus - I'm not closing shop around here, nor am I leaving HP fandom: Springsmut will be back in 2011!
Why am I putting Springsmut on hiatus? A few reasons. The main one is that I'm a bit burnt out. I modded/co-modded three fests this past year, and I wrote next to nothing of my own. I've had several offers from people to co-mod/help out, and it's not that. For those who have been around here the last three years - or participated in other fests I've modded/co-modded - you may have noticed that I'm just a tad bit anal about *how things are done.* (I hear that collective, "No! Lisa, not you! Certainly not!" Now hush! We all know you're just humoring me! :-P) The point being that I can't bring myself to mod in a half-arsed nature, just for the sake of it.
Another reason is that there are just so many HP fests. It's a known trend that the first week a fest posts, comment numbers are fairly high - people are excited and eager. And then participation wanes and drops off. Some people sign(ed) up for new fests and start writing as the next deadline looms, or real life intrudes, and well. *shrug* Not that anyone is required to read/comment on everything or even a majority of fics/art in any given fest, but I think you all know - and have experienced - what I'm talking about, as readers/watchers and participants. So many fests, so little time.
But in the end, it all comes down to me, and I just need a break. (Yes, yes - it's all about me. :) )
Again, I apologize for the disappointment, but it's not as though you'll be left high and dry. There are several fests running this spring for you to dig into: hp_rarities, hp_spring_fling, springtime_gen, * hp_beholder, and a dozen character-centric Big Bangs, all of which are good venues for long rare pair fic and art. And during the time when you'd normally be writing/drawing for springsmut, there are other fests for you to read (and potentially pinch hit for!) in January/February, 2010, namely wizard_love, hp_nextgen_fest, and charlieficathon.
Lots of rare pair goodness for you to sink your teeth into! (And don't forget to show the artists and authors your appreciation!)
hp_springsmut will be back in March, 2011 with signups opening @ December 1, 2010, so until then, enjoy the holidays and all the wonderful fic and art from the holiday fests, have a fantastic 2010 filled with rare-pair smutty goodness, and we'll see you in a year!

Title: Echoes of the Past, IV Challenges: the other pairing (Snape/Evan Rosier) snape100, "the seasons always change and life will find a way" lupin100 Word Count: 100 Note: this is part of the conclusion to the de-aged Snape plot begun a couple of weeks ago. He is in his twenties and has regained most of his memories.
Narcissa patted her shoulder. "Lupin has never struck me as that - charismatic."
"Who knows?" said Andromeda. "I even told her that Remus had been involved with Severus, and of course we'd all known about his preferences since the day Phipps caught him with Evan Rosier in that broom closet. She thought that a season or two would change him - "
" - then life would reassert itself." Narcissa gazed bleakly at the wall. "But now?"
A wail came from upstairs. "He needs his father," said Andromeda. "And I need my grandson. If this is the price - "

"He never loved your daughter." Narcissa set down her cup. "And yet you and your husband allowed the wedding. You let them live with you."
"It was that or lose her entirely. When Severus showed up, looking just the way he did when he was with Rosier - "
"Better than he did with Evan. His grandmother has his teeth fixed."
"I know." Andromeda buried her face in her hands. She could almost hear Dora saying See? I told you that seasons changed and life would find a way! as she held her newborn son. "What else could I do?"

Narcissa had poured two cups of tea by the time Andromeda returned from checking on Teddy. Andromeda gestured at the sugar bowl, which obediently added two spoonfuls to her cup.
"I'm not surprised about Severus. I remember that affair he had with Evan Rosier," said Narcissa as Andromeda took her first sip. "Your son-in-law being queer, though - "
"He was always, Cissy. I tried to warn Dora, but she kept saying that seasons always change and life will find a way, some nonsense like that." Andromeda shook her head. "He did his best, but he never truly loved her."

Audrey Prince was a sensible woman. Once she had been otherwise, and it had cost her first only child, and then her only grandchild. Now she had a second chance, and she had vowed to do a better job with the small, bewildered boy that had her Eileen's eyes and hair.
She had drive his first self away when she had caught him buggering Evan Rosier twenty years ago. But if she had learned one thing, it was that the seasons always change and life will find a way. If keeping Severus meant accepting the werewolf, accept him she would.

Audrey Prince led them to a spacious parlor. She vanished a stack of political flyers from the table, took a seat beneath an old lithograph of the statue of Meryatum at Abu Simbel, and tapped her cane for tea.
Severus accepted a steaming cup of tea. "You're looking well, Gran."
"As are you," said Madam Prince. "Considerably older than when you left for school, but well."
"It came on - gradually," said Remus. He paused. "Strong memories triggered growth. Today - "
"I know what happened today." Her gaze was unreadable. "Perhaps you'd care to tell me what happens next?"
